Saturday, 5:30 PM Parents’ Night Out resumes
There is a short meeting after this morning’s worship for all who are or wish to be on the list of people who read Scripture during our worship services. We will review some of the details about effective reading and share added resources for your preparation. If you think you might want to do this, just stay around and check it out.
The photography small group meets for pizza and pictures this noon.
Parents’ Night Out resumes this Saturday from 5:30 – 8:30 PM. Our theme this year is “Rodeo Ranch”. We still need a few adults or youth group members to help staff the program. Invite a neighbor (nursery through grade 5) to attend with you. Talk with Erin Peterson if you can help.
Advance notice: The annual CHOW Hunger Walk will be at Binghamton University on Sunday, October 21. You can get more information from a deacon or start contacting sponsors if you plan to be a walker.
Reserve time on Sunday evening, October 28, for a congregational forum on the question of whether young children should take part in the Lord’s Supper. The elders will be presenting material which provides the rationale for our present policy of expecting a public profession of faith before partaking of the bread and cup, as well as the reasons why it may be appropriate to allow all baptized children to receive the elements. There is no proposal for change; we are simply looking at this question which is being discussed in the CRC and which is practiced different ways in different denominations.
The grades 3-5 Sunday School class has plenty of shoe boxes for the Operation Christmas Child project. The challenge now is to receive enough supplies to fill the boxes. The focus this first week is on school supplies. For next week, be on the lookout for hygiene supplies. (Jerry, please integrate Florence’s announcement with this one.) .
We have the DVD of the presentations from the 2007 Leadership Summit. If you missed a day and wish to hear one of the presentations, or if you were unable to attend but would like to see what you missed, the DVD is on the shelf in the Leadership Library just outside the church office. Please sign it out and return it as soon as you can so others can view it as well.
Dick Crawford had another dose of chemo on Friday. Pray that he will tolerate this better and that it will do what it is intended to do in targeting the cancer.
The finance team reminds all the other ministry teams that all budget proposals must be submitted to Dave Derzanovich by October 15. Thanks for your cooperation.
Repeat note about needing refrigerator box.
Next Sunday, October 14, 2007
SUNDAY SCHOOL: 9:45 AM Classes for all ages. The adult class will be starting a new class. The topic will be “Faith” and we will be using the book written by John Ortberg “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve God to Get Out of the Boat.” There will be a short video clip each week along with a discussion guide. The hard cover book by the same title will also be helpful – talk with Pastor Gelder if you wish to order a copy.
MORNING WORSHIP: 11:00 AM Pastor Gelder will lead our worship. We will be observing All Nations Heritage Sunday as well as celebrating Holy Communion. The message will be “A Colorful Table” based on Luke 13:29. Take some time this week to look at your walk with Christ so you can be ready to take communion in a way that will help you become stronger spiritually. Talk with the pastor or an elder if you have questions pertaining to your participation.
The second offering next Sunday is for the Indonesian Christian Reformed Church in Dover, New Hampshire. Our generous financial support is a real encouragement to Pastor Michael and Deibi Lapian.
