WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship
The love of God has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;
we dwell in him and he in us.
Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him, sing praises to him,
and speak of all his marvelous works.
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty,
who was and is and is to come!

The Holy Spirit is the fire of holiness that surrounds the throne of God.  The Spirit burns away our sin and blindness and fills us with the beauty and purity of Jesus, our Lord.  Since this work is not yet finished in us, let us confess our sin to God.
Prayer of Confession
Burn in us this morning, Holy Spirit.  We give you the places of our hearts that have been choked by the cares of this world.  We give you our tiredness, our sin, our struggles with apathy.  We await your fiery cleansing.  Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The second offering today is for the Indonesian Christian Reformed Church ministry in Dover, New Hampshire.  We are pleased that the Lapians are planning to be with us at Valley Church on August 16.  A generous offering today will be a big encouragement to them in their ministry.

Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s Breakfast and Bible study at the Spot
                    9:30 AM Women’s Bible Study at Ruth Giese’s home
(study Romans 5)
                   11:30 AM Women’s luncheon at Cracker Barrel

At the congregational meeting last Wednesday, Tim Brown was approved for a term as elder and Mark Gryskevicz was selected as deacon.  Also, Jim Conrad’s term as deacon was extended for an extra year.  In addition to several ministry reports there was excellent discussion on the unresolved issue of placement of a cross on the church building or property and many good ideas were presented by people at the meeting.  If you have input or ideas, seek out a member of the facilities team or council.  We will be talking about this more at the next council meeting.

Pastor Gelder and Jan thank the congregation for their many prayers and expressions of concern at the death of their sister-in-law Carolyn Fredricks.   It is such a blessing to be part of a caring body.

We plan to honor our graduates on June 28.  We don’t want to miss anyone, so please put the names of all our high school and college graduates, along with the school from which they are graduating, on the list posted on the exit door.

Plan ahead:  Sunday, June 21 will be the start of our summer worship schedule.  There will be no Sunday School classes until after Labor Day.  Morning worship will be at 10:00 AM.  We will continue to have a special children’s time upstairs during the second half of the service.  To give the regular children’s church volunteers a break, we need YOU to consider taking a Sunday or two to show a video and serve a snack to the children.  Talk with Ron or Janet Crawford if you are willing to help out in this way.

The Fellowship Team is again planning that during the summer months we will have some refreshments after the morning services.  Because worship starts earlier, there is more time for enjoying fellowship and welcoming guests.  If you haven’t already done so, please sign up for a summer Sunday when you will bring the refreshments.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods golf tournament will be here the last week in June.  The Johnny Hart Memorial Christian breakfast will be held on Thursday, June 25 at 7:30 AM at the Kalurah Shrine in Endicott.  There will be a Valley Church table or tables.  Ron Crawford  will arrange for the tickets ($10.00 for breakfast and course admission for the pro-am that day).  See him so he knows how many tickets we’ll need.

NEXT SUNDAY, June 14, 2009

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:45 AM  All are welcome to join us for the end-of-season Sunday School breakfast.  Please sign up if you will be attending and to indicate if you will be bringing something for the breakfast.  This will be a time to recognize the students who are moving on to new classes and to thank the teachers for their good work this season

MORNING WORSHIP:  11:00 AM  Pastor Gelder will begin a summer series of messages “Learning from the First Churches” based on stories in Acts 10-28.  We will visit the beginning of the church in Caesarea as described in Acts 10:23-48.  We will also celebrate Holy Communion.  Take some time this week to do a self-examination of your spiritual life so that your participation in the sacrament will be a rich blessing.  If you have any questions about your participation, please talk with an elder this week.
