WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
Welcome
*Call to Worship
There is none like you, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come and bow down before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.  (Psalm 86:8-10)
*Opening Praise – 483:1,3,4 “How Great Thou Art”
*God Greets Us
*We Greet Others
*Continuing Praise

Call to Confession
We know that nothing is able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ.
Let us in freedom confess the wrong we have done.
Prayer of Confession
Lord, we have sinned, without considering how much you love us.  You see our sins more clearly than we can ourselves.
Lord, you know when we are indifferent to your Word, the Bible;
how often we forget to pray;
the times we come unwillingly to worship;
and yet we turn to you when we are in trouble.
Lord, you know when we are untruthful and when we think evil of others.
You see our anger and unfairness to our friends.
You know how hard it is for us to forgive.
Forgive us and make us clean, so that we can obey your call to take up the cross and follow you.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!  (Romans 5:8-9)
Thanks be to God!  We are forgiven in Christ!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are glad to welcome Mr. Charles Kuperus back to Valley Church this morning.  He is a member of the Goshen CRC and has been licensed by Classis Atlantic Northeast to bring God’s Word to the churches in this area.  May God bless the message he brings us in the absence of Pastor Gelder.  The Gelders expect to return home late Wednesday evening.

The second offering today is for Christian Reformed World Missions and the salary support of the Van Dam family as they represent us in Haiti.  This offering was planned before the earthquake and the need is particularly relevant now.  As always, please be generous in your giving.

Are you filling your baby bottle?  This is one way of helping support the ministry of the Life Choices Center in Binghamton.  Use your loose change to fill the bottle (paper money is welcome too!) and then bring it back to church by February 28.

If you haven’t contributed to the Haiti Relief effort or if you feel led to give again, you can do so by placing a check in any offering.  Just be sure to designate it for “Haiti Relief” as you fill out the memo line.  The need for relief will be followed by a huge need for rebuilding.  CRWRC is particularly well-positioned for this work.  They will be focusing their efforts in the city of Leogane, near the earthquake epicenter and an area which is reported to be nearly 90% destroyed.

Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s breakfast and Bible study at the Spot
Wednesday, 9:30 AM Women’s Bible Study meets at
Wednesday, 11:30 AM Women’s luncheon at Cracker Barrel
Saturday, 6:30 PM Valentine’s dinner

This would be a great week to put something in the children’s mail box – a Valentine, perhaps?  If you haven’t noticed the boxes before, they are mounted on the wall right by the steps that head upstairs.  Let’s not disappoint our children – they are all a vital part of the body of Christ here at Valley Church.

Continue in prayer for the Van Dam family during this time of separation.  Pray that Howard and other CRC staff in Haiti will be kept safe and will find time for renewal in the middle of the chaos.  Pray too for Ruth and the children as they try to find some sort of “new normal” with her family in New Berlin.

Valentine’s dinner notice

Advance notice:  Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17.  Plan to join us for a solemn time of worship as we begin this special time of reflection on the passion of our Lord.

NEXT SUNDAY, February 14, 2010
SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:15 AM  Classes for all ages meet.  The adult class will continue the video series based on John Ortberg’s book The Life You’ve Always Wanted.  Newcomers are always welcome to the class.
MORNING WORSHIP: 10:30 AM  Pastor Gelder is back and will bring the concluding message in his series on “Good Questions, Great Answers”.  The question this week is “Whose Fault Is It?” based on John 9:2.
We will be observing the Lord’s Supper at this service.  Take time this week to do some self-examination so that you will be able to come to the table with a clean heart and conscience.  Remember, participation in the Lord’s Supper is for all who have publicly professed that Jesus is their Lord and Savior, either at Valley Church or at another Christian church, assuming you are seeking to live the way Jesus wants you to live.  If you have any questions about your participation, speak with an elder this week.
