Call to Confession
The psalm writer models a transparent faith with these words:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.”  (Psalm 139:23-24)
We express our longing for God’s leading by our won transparent confession.
Prayer of Confession
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world.  Have mercy on us.
(Moment of silent prayer)
Let us pray together:
Our lives are cluttered, Lord Jesus, by too many things and too much to do.  We are driven by the need to succeed and distracted from our service.  We have often lost our way.  Forgive us.  Let us, like Mary, find the one thing that is needed and sit at your feet.  Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
God the Creator brings you new life, forgives and redeems you.  Take hold of this forgiveness, and live your life in the Spirit of Jesus.  Amen.

*Dismissed to Serve
Take a few moments now to pray and meditate on your daily work – its joys, challenges, worries, and relationships – and how these might be more fully dedicated to God in the coming year.
(Silent meditation and prayer)
The rule of Jesus Christ covers the whole world.  To follow this Lord is to serve him everywhere, without fitting in, as light in the darkness, as salt in a spoiling world.  (Our World Belongs to God, stanza 45)
Enabled by Christ’s love, we shall endeavor to make each day’s work a sacrament, work and worship interwoven.  We will work with all our heart as unto the Lord, knowing that it is Jesus Christ we serve.
Let us pray.
O Master Workman, cleanse our work from selfishness, impatience, and desire for recognition.  Forgive us, train us, and use us for your glory.
Amen.
*God Blesses Us

ANNOUNCEMENTS

This morning we will be ordaining three new deacons to terms of service at Valley Church.  Marsha Conrad will be starting a two-year term and Beth Cunningham and Henry Huizinga will start three-year terms.  Pray for them as they serve Valley Church and our community.  We also thank Jim Conrad, Greg Huck and Barb Komaromi for their faithful service as deacons in the past years and pray that God will continue to use them as they serve in other positions.

Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s breakfast and Bible study at the Spot

REMEMBER:  Next Sunday we go back to the regular worship schedule of Sunday school classes for all ages at 9:15 AM and morning worship at 10:30 AM.   Last year there were times when the Sunday school classes started late because children and adults came late.  We hope that everyone will be more used to the 9:15 start time this year and that we will be able to take advantage of the full hour for our Sunday school classes.  They are important for both our children and for adults.

The new season of Sunday school classes will begin next Sunday with a light brunch of muffins and fruit for all who can come.  Please bring something to pass – beverages will be provided.  At Valley Church we feel strongly that training of children is important so that they can grow in their walk with Jesus.  We also want to encourage all adults to continue learning and sharing your faith with others by participating in the adult class.  The curriculum for the season will be presented next Sunday morning.

The sixth annual Fall Festival is Sunday, September 19 from 1-4 PM.  We again need all of you to help make this a successful event for reaching our community.  Sign up sheets listing places, times and ways to serve are on the table in the foyer.  Please consider where you can best help and sign up for the areas you are willing to work.  There’s a place for everyone to help.  Also, it’s not too soon to mention it to your neighbors and friends, inviting them to participate with you.

NEXT SUNDAY, September 12, 2010
SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:15 AM  A new season of classes for all ages from pre-school through adult begins.  All are welcome for the new-season kickoff as we share a light breakfast of muffins and fruit (please bring something to share) and as we introduce the classes, staff, and curriculum we’ll be following this year.  There’s a place for YOU.
MORNING WORSHIP:  10:30 AM   Pastor Gelder will lead our worship, beginning a new series of messages from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.  We will be focusing on Ephesians 1:3-14, a profound description of “God’s Glory and Our Blessing”.
Greg Huck will be ordained to his term as an elder at this service.
We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper.  Take time this week to examine your heart and your actions so that you will be blessed when you take part in this sacrament.
The second offering will be for the Chenango Forks Schools Nurses Discretionary Fund.  Each year at the start of school we take an offering which helps the staff at the CF Schools to provide items needed by students which are not available through other programs.  Your generous support is always much appreciated.
