Call to Confession
When humans no longer show God’s image, all creation suffers.
We abuse the creation or idolize it.  We are estranged from our Creator, from our neighbor, and from all that God has made.
Therefore, let us confess our sins.  (Our World Belongs to God, st. 16)
Prayer of Confession
God of everlasting love, we confess that we have been unfaithful to our covenant with you and with one another.  We have worshiped other gods:  money, power, greed, and convenience.  We have served our own self-interest instead of serving only you and your people.  We have not loved our neighbor as you have commanded, nor have we rightly loved ourselves. Forgive us, gracious God, and bring us back into the fullness of our covenant with you and one another.  Through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Our world, broken and scarred, still belongs to God.
He holds it together and gives us hope.
With the whole creation we wait for the purifying fire of judgment.
For then we will see the Lord face to face.
God will be all in all, righteousness and peace will flourish, everything will be made new,
and every eye will see at last that our world belongs to God!  Hallelujah!  Come, Lord Jesus.  (Our World Belongs to God, st. 18, 58)

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Tuesday, 7:30 PM Growth and Renewal Team meets
Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s breakfast and Bible study at the Spot
Wednesday, 9:30 AM Women’s Bible Study meets at Sue Brown’s home.
Thursday, 7:30 PM National Day of Prayer observance

The National Day of Prayer will be observed this Thursday and we are asked to meet for prayer for our nation and our leaders.  We will do that together at 7:30 PM, but of course you are encouraged to pray throughout the day for our nation.  Our evening prayer service will also include a time of prayer for crops and industry, as the Christian Reformed Church has done in the springtime for many years.

The Valley Church softball team will have a practice this afternoon at 4:00 PM at the Chenango Forks Schools softball field.   See coach Janet Crawford for more information.

Please remember to complete and return your Talents and Abilities Survey.  The deacons are using this to develop a data bank of the abilities and interests of Valley members which can be used to help others in times of need.  Extra copies of the form are on the table in the narthex.

NEXT SUNDAY, May 9, 2010
SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:15 AM  Classes for all ages meet.  The adult class will continue its study of the book of Romans.  Pastor Gelder also continues a class for adults interested in becoming members at Valley Church
MORNING WORSHIP:  10:30 AM  Pastor Gelder will lead our worship, continuing the series of messages on “Eyewitnesses to Resurrection”.  We will consider testimony of the women as described in Mark 16:1-8.
At this service we will celebrate the promises of God to his children sealed in baptism.  Jim and Marcy Canary are presenting their daughter Ava as they claim God’s covenant promises for her.
The second offering will be for the Valley Church youth programs, including funding for local and out of the area service projects being planned for the next two summers.  This is a great opportunity to encourage our youth and youth leaders by showing generous support.
