THIS WEEK IN THE LIFE OF VALLEY CHURCH
This evening at 7:00 PM we will have another hymn sing. This will be a time for singing your favorite hymns, led by the organ and piano. Paul Peterson and Paige Vermaat will be leading us vocally. Thank you to all who suggested songs to sing. If you haven’t already done so, invite your friends to join you for this inspiring evening.
Next Sunday we will be having a reverse offering as the deacons invite your help in making up Thanksgiving baskets for some of the needy families in our area, to be distributed by the Chenango Forks Schools’ social workers. We hope to provide at least ten baskets again this year. World hunger is not just something to note across an ocean; hunger is found locally as well and we can help do something about it, both through supporting our local CHOW pantry and by filling these baskets.
Thursday, 7:30 PM Worship Team meets
Plan now to attend the annual Harvest Dinner on Saturday, November 11 at 7:00 PM.
We have received our DVD copy of the presentations made at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit last August. Perhaps you attended all or part of the Summit in Syracuse and wish to review a presentation or see what you missed. If you were not able to attend this year, this is your opportunity to see some of what you missed. The DVD is part of a collection of leadership resources which are kept in the bookcase just outside the church office door. You can sign it out for your use, but please return it as soon as you can so others can also use it. We also have the copy of the interview with Bono which we will show on our big screen some time soon.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Louise and Jim LaGro in the death in Arizona last Monday of Louise’s brother Paul. May God comfort them and the rest of the family with the assurance of his eternal life in Christ.
Next Sunday, November 5, 2006
SUNDAY SCHOOL: 9:45 AM Sunday School classes for all ages. The adult class continues its study of “What’s Up with the Church Down the Street” which will help us understand the beliefs and practices of other Christian groups. In doing so, we will come to a clearer understanding of our own Reformed tradition.
MORNING WORSHIP: 11:00 AM Pastor Gelder will be with us and bring us a message “Stop Stealing, Start Giving” based on Exodus 20:15 and Ephesians 4:28. This is one way we join other Christian Reformed Churches in Canada and the US in observing World Hunger Sunday. It also continues our look at each of the Ten Commandments, God’s guide for Christian living in 2006.
