ANNOUNCEMENTS
We are pleased to welcome John Aukema as he brings us God’s Word this morning. John is not only a Methodist lay pastor in the Cortland area; he is really a product of Valley Church, having spent a significant part of his youth here. (He is a brother of Grace Roossien and Doug Aukema.) Thank you, John, for leading our worship today.
Next Sunday we will be hosting the Van Dam family, our missionaries in Haiti. There will be a pot luck lunch at church that day so we can get better acquainted and give them our blessing before they return to Haiti. Two weeks later, Sunday, August 16 we will welcome the Lapian family, as they share their ministry with the Indonesian community in New Hampshire. This is also the date for our annual church picnic following the morning service. More details will follow.
Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s Breakfast and Bible study at the Spot
The Gelders are enjoying two weeks of vacation, this week with their whole family in Virginia followed by several days in Michigan while Betsy attends Camp Sunshine. Pray for a re-energizing time with family and for safety as they travel, returning to Binghamton August 7. If you need assistance or counsel during their absence, please contact one of the elders.
Have you noticed the cross migrating to several positions on the church grounds? After several placements, you will be able to see pictures of each spot and then you will be able to give feedback to the facilities team and council as to which placement best accents our vision of “Shining Christ’s Light in Our Valley”.
NEXT SUNDAY, August 2, 2009
SUNDAY SCHOOL: There are no Sunday School classes until September.
MORNING WORSHIP: 10:00 AM We welcome Howard and Ruth Van Dam and family, missionaries to Haiti, as they bring us God’s Word. We will also be commissioning them for another term of service in Haiti. There will also be a second offering at this service for Christian Reformed World Missions, specifically for salary support for the Van Dams. Let’s encourage them as they return by bringing a large and generous offering.
POT LUCK LUNCH: 11:30 AM All are invited to stay following the service for a pot luck lunch with the Van Dams. Beverages will be provided – please bring a dish to pass that is large enough for your family and a couple others. Thanks.
