THIS WEEK IN THE LIFE OF VALLEY CHURCH
Tuesday, 7:00 PM Prayer meeting
Tuesday, 7:30 PM Congregational meeting
Wednesday, 5:30 PM Faith Night at NYSEG Stadium
Thursday, 7:00 PM Growth and Renewal Team meets
The second offering this morning is for Project Concern. This local ministry on Kattelville Road serves an incredible number of people with clothing, household items and some food, as well as with special help at the start of the school year and at Christmas time. It depends almost totally on volunteer help and on the generous support of the community. Your generous financial gift will be wisely used and greatly appreciated.
The regular spring congregational meeting will be held this Tuesday, June 26, with a prayer time at 7 and the meeting beginning at 7:30 PM. We will be selecting new elders and deacons at that time. Nominated for elder is Doug Aukema. Bill Kutz and Dot Simonds are the elders whose three-year terms are ending and both have agreed to extend for one year, so we will select by lot the one who will continue. Deacon nominees are Greg Huck and Barb Komaromi. They will, if approved, replace Dave Derzanovich and Beth Cunningham, who are completing their terms. Judy Crawford has agreed to extend her term for one year. In addition to the regular ministry reports and financial update, we will be discussing the question of children’s participation in the Lord’s Supper. This is especially pertinent in light of the number of children who publicly professed faith in Jesus at the Franklin Graham Festival. Each church family should plan to be represented at this meeting.
On Thursday evening the Growth and Renewal team will be meeting at 7:00 PM. Joining us for the meeting will be Diane Averill, who serves the eastern region of the CRC as a small group resource person. She will be bringing ideas and resources to help us strengthen our small group ministry. If you are a small group leader, or if this is your area of interest or passion, please join us.
The refreshments following the service this morning are in honor of Tommy and Edele Thompson’s 50th wedding anniversary, which was on June 9 but is being celebrated by the family this weekend.
A GREAT PROBLEM! As mentioned before, about 20 Valley Church children and youth responded to the invitation to follow Jesus presented at Rock the City, Kidzfest and the Youth Night events of the Franklin Graham Festival. One part of the follow-up plan is to pair each of these young people with an adult who will serve as a mentor for them in their walk with Christ. If you are interested in serving in this capacity (and there will be some resources for you to use in your contacts), please talk with Debbie Harmon ASAP.
Continue to pray for Dick Crawford as he waits results from more tests that were done last week. Pray too for Tommy Thompson who will be returning to the Roswell Cancer Center in Buffalo this week for another procedure and another consultation to decide on next steps of treatment. Also, Bob Starr is having more difficulty in getting around. Pray for him and Connie in this trying time.

MORNING WORSHIP: 10:00 AM Our worship will be led by Pastor Gelder. The message, “God’s Faithfulness”, based on Psalm 91, will be brought by John Aukema. Many members of the Aukema family will be with us since they will be gathering in Binghamton that weekend to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the family’s move from the Netherlands to this country. We will also recall that it was 40 years ago this summer that construction began on the first phase of our church building.
