WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship –
Clap your hands, all you people;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
God has gone up with a shout,
the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
*Opening Song – 465:1,2,4 “Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above”
*God Greets Us
*We Greet Each Other
*Continuing Praise –
       “I Worship You, Almighty God”
       “I Stand in Awe”
Call to Confession –
We cannot come before God unless we are first honest with ourselves about who we are, about who God is, about the ways we fall short of giving God the glory and about the ways we fail to respect others for who they are as image bearers of God.  Accepting God’s grace to receive us as new persons in Christ, let us confess our sin before God and one another.
Moment of Silence
Prayer of Confession
Great and eternal God, forgive us for thinking small thoughts of you and for ignoring your immensity and greatness.  Forgive us when we forget that you rule the nations and our small lives.  We confess we have too often been so focused on our own little world that we have missed opportunities to serve others.  Have mercy upon us.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon –
God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  (Romans 5:8; 8:1)
Thanks be to God!

Ann De Jager underwent surgery on Wednesday.  The doctors were pleased with the way she came through the surgery.  Pray for her good recovery and that she will not need extensive follow-up treatments.

David De Young had surgery Thursday to pin the fractured bone in his arm.  Pray too for an uncomplicated recovery and for strength as he will be having rehab while keeping up with his school work that begins Monday.

Pray for all our college students as many of them start classes this week.  Pray especially for those who are away from home for the first time that they will adjust well and remain focused on their studies while enjoying new freedom and new opportunities.

Charlotte Cummings will have knee replacement surgery Tuesday at Lourdes.  Pray that all goes well for her, both during the surgery and in the rehab that will follow.

Please review the mid-year financial summary that is in your mail slot.  Thank you for generous giving; if you can increase your weekly support somewhat, we will be able to meet our obligations this year.

NEXT SUNDAY, August 31, 2008

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  There are NO Sunday School classes until September 7.
MORNING WORSHIP:     10:00 AM   Pastor Gelder will bring the last message in this summer’s series on the Lord’s Prayers.  The message is “The Most Personal Prayer” based on John 17.

We will be starting our Fall schedule on September 7.  Plan to join us for a light breakfast at 9:45 as we kick off a new season of Sunday School classes for all ages.  It is our hope that all the children will be part of a class this year, and that more adults too will take advantage of this opportunity for learning and fellowship.  This will also be the day when we resume having our morning worship begin at 11:00 AM.  Please note this on your personal calendar.

Plan ahead – reserve Sunday, September 14 for our fourth annual Fall Festival.  There will be activities for all ages, including some new things to draw your interest.  As in the past, we will need everyone’s help to make this a great day for our neighbors and for the Valley fellowship.
