Welcome into Membership – the Joel De Young family
Hear these words of Jesus, an invitation and a promise offered to us all:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In obedience to this command, the church baptizes believers and their children.

Our gracious God has always desired to hold his people in a covenant embrace.  The Lord declares over and over, “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”  Pursuing this deep desire, God called Abraham and Sarah to trust in him and gave a covenant sign to show that they belonged to him.  In baptism God now claims us in Christ, marks us as his own people, and seals our membership in God’s covenant community, the church.  Baptism is the covenant sign that God frees us from the power of sin and death, uniting us with Jesus Christ in his death and resurrection.  By water and the Holy Spirit we are washed clean from sin.  God’s grace in baptism calls us to give ourselves to him in trust, love, and obedience.

From the beginning, God graciously has included our children in his covenant.  All God’s promises are for them as well as for us.  We are to teach them that they have been set apart by baptism as God’s own children so that as they grow older they may respond to him in personal faith and commitment.
Profession of faith
Joel and Jenni, please stand and in the presence of God and his people respond to the following questions:
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God sent to redeem the world, do you love and trust him as the one who saves you from your sin, and do you with repentance and joy confess him to be Lord of your life?
Do you believe that the Bible is the Word of God, that it reveals Christ and his redemption, and that the teachings of this church faithfully reflect what the Bible teaches?
Do you accept the gracious promises of God sealed to you in your baptism and do you affirm your union with Christ and his church which your baptism signifies?
Do you promise to do all you can, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to strengthen your love and commitment to Christ by sharing faithfully in the life of the church, honoring and submitting to its authority; and do you join with the people of God in doing the work of the Lord everywhere?
Having heard God’s gracious promises to us in Christ, do you desire that your children be baptized?

The second offering this morning is for the relief and community development ministries of the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.  Remember that this agency of the CRC receives no ministry share support and is dependent on the generous offerings of God’s people.  In addition to ongoing programs around the world, there is immediate need for funds so CRWRC can respond to the floods in Pakistan and the drought in Niger.
