ANNOUNCEMENTS

Worship today includes the reception into membership of Henry and Linda Huizinga and their children and of Tilly Huizinga and her children.  Henry and Linda were members of the Presbyterian Church in Monroe, NY and Tilly was a member at the Nineveh Presbyterian Church.   We are glad to hear them reaffirm their faith and recommit themselves to serving Jesus as their Lord and Savior here at Valley.

The second offering today is for the Valley Church CHOW Pantry.  Your offerings are used to purchase items not available from the CHOW warehouse but which are needed to provide balanced meals to the families served by our pantry.

Howard and Ruth Van Dam and family are worshiping with us today.  In addition to sharing in the service some of their experiences of being in Haiti during and after the earthquake, they will be staying after to talk more over coffee and a light “soup and bread” lunch.  Thank you to all who helped plan the lunch.

Are you still filling your baby bottle?  Use your loose change to fill the bottle (paper money is welcome too!) and then bring it back to church next Sunday, February 28.  The people at the Life Choices Center will be encouraged by your support.

The deacons will continue to receive gifts for the Haiti earthquake response.  Just be sure to designate it for “Haiti Response” as you fill out the memo line on your check.  The need for relief is followed by a huge need for rebuilding.  CRWRC is particularly well-positioned for this work.  They are focusing their efforts in the city of Leogane, near the earthquake epicenter and an area which is reported to be nearly 90% destroyed.

Council Notes:

NEXT SUNDAY, February 28, 2010
SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:15 AM  Classes for all ages meet.  The adult class will continue the video series based on John Ortberg’s book The Life You’ve Always Wanted.   How are you doing with spiritual transformation?
MORNING WORSHIP: 10:30 AM  Pastor Gelder continues the Lenten series of messages on “The Symbols of Suffering”.  This week we will read from Matthew 26 and 27 about the bag of money given to Judas for betraying Jesus.
All are invited to come to church at 6:00 PM to view two video presentations on the big screen.  The first (about 40 minutes) is a speech by Dr. Tim Keller on “Leading People to the Prodigal God.”  One of the small groups at Valley is studying the book The Prodigal God by Dr. Keller and we may use it in adult Sunday School next year.  The other, shorter presentation (about 20 minutes) is by Bill Hybels.  These are two of the prime presentations from last summer’s Leadership Summit.  There will be opportunity for discussion following the presentations if you choose to stay.
