THIS WEEK IN THE LIFE OF VALLEY CHURCH
This morning we are blessed to receive the Talma family into membership at Valley Church. Tim and Melissa join us by reaffirming the faith they professed earlier and Veronica will receive the sign and seal of baptism indicating her place in God’s family. Please stay following the service for the refreshments which are served in honor of this special day.
We thank God that Inger Thomas returned home from the hospital after her treatment for pneumonia. May God give her continued healing and a good recovery.
The Woodnorth family invites us to share their joy as their daughter Thea married Jonathan Carnes yesterday in Michigan. May God bless them with many years of happiness and serving God together.
The Gelders will be leaving Tuesday for a week of vacation and family time in Tennessee. If you need any pastoral care during their absence, please contact one of the elders.
Wednesday, 7:30 PM Thanksgiving Eve Worship
This evening at 7:00 PM is the annual Chenango Valley area community Thanksgiving service, hosted this year by St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Hillcrest. Pastor Gelder will be bringing the message. Take the opportunity tonight to join your neighbors in a time of shared thanks to God.
The second offering next Sunday is for the support of Barth and Janine Chapman as they have returned to their ministry in Taiwan. If God leads you, please be generous in your support of this ministry.
Youth announcement from Julie about church decorating and Nativity practice.
Once again we want to give beautiful calendars to people from the community who come to enjoy the live nativity presentation December 16. Funds for this come as you buy your own calendar for $6.00. For each calendar purchased we can give one away. Sign up for the number you will be purchasing on the sheets on the table in the entry.
Council notes: 1. Pastor Gelder led the devotions, reading from I Corinthians 12 in celebration of the diversity of gifts found in the body of Christ. 2. The Growth and Renewal team is planning for a Small Group Sunday on January 21, when there will be opportunity to consider joining a new small group or continuing with the group you are in. 3. Most of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the proposed budget for 2007 as presented to council by the finance team. The revised budget to be presented at the congregational meeting is $135,723.00, which is a 4.7% increase over the 2006 budget. 4. While general fund receipts for this year are up significantly over last year at this time, we are still about $30,000 short of meeting the total budget for 2006. Please consider this as you plan your giving for the rest of the year. 5. The agenda for the December 6 congregational meeting was finalized.
Next Sunday, November 26, 2006
SUNDAY SCHOOL: 9:45 AM Sunday School classes for all ages do not meet this week. Starting on December 3, the adult class will have a short series of three Advent lessons. Plan to be a part of the class for this material too. Also, on that day the children will be presenting the Jesse tree as part of our Advent worship.
MORNING WORSHIP: 11:00 AM Pastor Gelder will be away, so our worship will be led by Mr. Sam Boldenow. Sam is a student at Calvin Seminary in Michigan and is also a nephew of Luci Huizinga. We are pleased to welcome him as he leads us in worship. We pray too for his safe travel from and to Michigan.
