ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Bible says “Is anyone among you sick?  Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”  (James 5:14)  As part of the intercessory prayer this morning, we invite anyone who wishes to receive the blessing of this passage to come and be specifically prayed for as we also pray for others far from us.

If you were not here last Sunday to participate in the reverse offering to bring food items for the CHOW pantry, you can do so today.  There is an offering plate on the table in the entry with slips of paper listing some of the items needed by the CHOW warehouse.  Take one (or more) and bring the food items next Sunday.  We’d like to have a lot of food to show the bike riders on the Sea to Sea Tour that we are working with them to help end the cycle of poverty in our own community too.

If you can join the Gelders at Fairview-Good Shepherd Home this afternoon at 3:30 PM, it will be appreciated.  We will be conducting a worship service for the residents there this afternoon.  You can help with the singing and with greeting residents after the half-hour service.

Monday, 7:00 PM Deacons meet
Wednesday, 7:30 PM Worship Team meets
Thursday, 7:00 PM Growth and Renewal Team meets

If you attended the Willow Creek Leadership Summit simulcast a couple weeks ago, you are invited to meet with the Growth and Renewal team this Thursday evening to debrief and discuss things you saw and heard which we might want to follow up on at Valley Church.  The meeting is at 7:00 PM.

Ann De Jager will be having surgery this Wednesday.  Pray that the surgery will be successful and that the cancer will be completely removed.  Pray too for her speedy recovery and for peace in the waiting time.

Beth Cunningham continues to have swelling in her leg as a consequence of the blood clot that was discovered a few weeks ago.  Pray for continued improvement and for more patience as she waits for complete recovery.

Youth Announcements:

NEXT SUNDAY, August 24, 2008

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  There are NO Sunday School classes until September 7.  Plan now to be a regular participant in one of the classes that will be offered at that time.  No one is past the point of being able to learn more from God’s Word, plus we may have something to share from our walk with God that can be a help to another person.

MORNING WORSHIP:     10:00 AM   Pastor Gelder will bring another message in this summer’s series on the Lord’s Prayers.  The message is “Who Gets the Glory?” based on Matthew 6:13b.

Plan ahead – reserve Sunday, September 14 for our fourth annual Fall Festival.  There will be activities for all ages, including some new things to draw your interest.  As in the past, we will need everyone’s help to make this a great day for our neighbors and for the Valley fellowship.
