God’s Invitation and Promises
Response of Faith
Having heard God’s gracious promises to us in Christ, do you, Michael, Maria, Casey and Jesse, desire to be baptized?
I do.
We praise God for the life and witness of Paul and Carol, Greg and Sharyn.  We are grateful that they desire to join our congregation and to share with us in our work of worship, witness and fellowship.  What unites us is nothing less than our common identity in Christ.  We celebrate our unity and receive these new members with joy.
You have earlier in other churches publicly professed the faith you reaffirm today. Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, share in its worship and ministry through your prayers and gifts, your study and service, and so fulfill your calling to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
I will, with God’s help.
*Profession of Faith – Apostles’ Creed
Baptism
Welcome
We have received these brothers and sisters into the membership of Valley Church through baptism and reaffirmation of faith.  I charge you to nurture and love them and to assist them to be Christ’s faithful disciples.
With joy and thanksgiving, we welcome you into this part of Christ’s church, for we are all one in Christ.  We promise to love, encourage, and support you and to help you know and follow Christ.

The bread that we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
We who are many are one body, for we all share the same loaf.
The cup for which we give thanks is a sharing in the blood of Christ.
The cup that we drink is our participation in the blood of Christ.
The gifts of God for the people of God.

The blood of Christ, shed for you.
Thanks be to God.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday, 7:00 PM Prayer Meeting
Thursday, 7:30 PM Worship Team meets

Our third annual Fall Festival is next Sunday, September 23 from 1-4 PM.  Everyone is needed to be part of this outreach to our neighbors and community.  There is a sign-up sheet on the table where you can indicate how you will help out and what you will contribute.  Plan to attend so there are plenty of people welcoming our neighbors and answering their questions.  Keep praying for open doors with your neighbors and friends so you can invite them to attend with you.  Pray for good weather too!

Our worship themes and adult Sunday School lessons for the next few weeks are all centered around the concept of discipleship and following Jesus.  You are all encouraged to be using the devotional book “Follow Me” that was in your mail slots last Sunday.  If you didn’t get a copy last week, talk with Pastor Gelder today as more copies have been ordered.

There is a second opportunity to participate in the “Follow Me” study at 5 PM this afternoon.  If you were unable to participate in the morning Sunday School class (children/youth teachers, work, etc.), plan to attend this added class.

The second offering next Sunday will be for Christian Reformed World Missions and specifically to support the work of the Van Dams in Haiti.

Continue to support Dick and Judy Crawford and their family in prayer.  Dick’s hospitalization lasted much longer than expected as doctors try to find the source of his infection.  Meanwhile this delays any further chemo treatments.  Pray for peace and patience in a trying time.

Word from Arizona is that Hilda Palmer is doing well physically in her new setting close to family but that there is continuing decline in memory as the Alzheimer’s disease progresses.  Keep her and her daughters in prayer.

Next Sunday, September 23, 2007

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:45 AM   Classes for all ages.  The adult class continues the discipleship series “Follow Me”.  There will be a repeat class offered at 5:00 PM for those who were unable to be at the morning class.

MORNING WORSHIP:     11:00 AM   Pastor Gelder will lead our worship, continuing the series on being a disciple of Jesus.  The message “The Shepherd and the Sheep” will be based on John 10:1-21.

FALL FESTIVAL:  1:00 PM  There will be opportunities for everyone to  be involved as we welcome our neighbors to Valley Church for an afternoon of fun and fellowship.  Plan to bring a friend and to be available to help out as needed.
