THIS WEEK IN THE LIFE OF VALLEY CHURCH
Micah Sunday is being celebrated by Christians around the world today.  Its practical purpose is to remind us of global suffering, show us the movement of the Holy Spirit in the amazing force gathering to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, and to give us opportunities to be equal partners with Christians in the two-thirds world to achieve lasting solutions for the unnecessary suffering of millions.  If you don’t know why this is called “Micah Sunday”, the answer is found in Micah 6:8.

Tuesday, 7:00 PM Growth and Renewal Team
Saturday, 6:00 PM Parents’ Night Out

Today is the annual Hunger Walk for CHOW.  It is held on the campus of Binghamton University, with the walk beginning at 2:00 PM.  This is one of the largest fund raisers for CHOW each year and your generous support will help not only our pantry here at Valley Church but all the pantries in churches around the county.  If you are not going to be walking yourself and wish to support CHOW, Betsy Gelder will again be doing the Hunger Ride in her wheelchair and will appreciate your support.  Of course, your continuing supply of food items for our own pantry is greatly appreciated.

Parents’ Night Out returns for another season beginning this Saturday from 6-9 PM.  Again this program is meant to offer parents of children from nursery through grade 5 an opportunity to have three hours free time while their children are well cared for in a safe and fun environment.  Thank you to all who again this season are willing to help staff this activity.  If you are a parent wanting to take advantage of the time away from your children, please sign them up today (or no later than Thursday evening).  There is a sheet on the door where you can indicate who will be attending.  If you wish to help with part of the program, talk with Erin Peterson, Tammie Gryskevicz or Debbie Harmon today.

The second offering next Sunday is for Christian Reformed Home Missions.

Advance notice:  The worship team is planning another hymn sing for Sunday evening, October 29, 7:00 PM.  This will be a time for singing your favorite hymns, led by the organ and (for some) the piano.  To make sure we sing your favorite hymns, please list songs you want sung, either from the grey Psalter Hymnal or the white hymnal.  There are papers and books in the area behind the worship center where you can indicate your songs.

Continue to pray for Mabel Benedict and Thea Huizinga as they keep on with their therapy programs.  Sue Parker has been moved to Willow Point for ongoing care.  Also, thank God for continuing to care for Danielle Wood as she remains on limited activity during her pregnancy.

Just a reminder - check your mail folder regularly.  This week you will find a recent prayer letter from the Van Dams, along with a new family picture for posting on your refrigerator to encourage you to keep them in prayer.  If you don’t have a mail folder, please mention this to the Krempels or leave a note on the Cindy’s desk in the church office.

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:45 AM  Sunday School classes for all ages.  The adult class continues its study of “What’s Up with the Church Down the Street” which will help us understand the beliefs and practices of other Christian groups.  In doing so, we will come to a clearer understanding of our own Reformed tradition.

MORNING WORSHIP:     11:00 AM   Pastor Gelder will be with us and bring us a message “Loving the Light” based on Exodus 20:13 and I John 2:9-11.  This will continue our look at each of the Ten Commandments, God’s guide for Christian living in 2006.
