WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship –
We have gathered here to honor the One who created us,
The One who gave us life,
The One who sustains our lives every day,
The One who is our constant companion,
The One who loves us more than a father and mother,
The One who is worthy of our praise and of our service all the days of our lives.

Call to Confession
           The apostle John wrote:
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.  But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and  not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
In the strength of this assurance, let us confess our sins to God.
Prayer of Confession
Almighty God and loving Father, we thank you for placing us in covenant relationships, in homes and families and friendships.  Forgive us for taking our vows and promises lightly. Forgive us for the breakdown of family life, for misdirected love and for divorces entered lightly, for failing to give time to our families, for failing to teach and live by your values, for neglecting and abusing our children.  Jesus, our heavenly brother, teach us every day to love and serve, to cherish and protect those with whom we live.  In your name we pray.
          Amen.
Assurance of Pardon –
Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb?  As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you, says the Lord. (Isaiah 49:15; 66:13)

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The message this Father’s Day morning is brought by elder Bill Kutz.  May God give him strength and blessing as he opens the Bible for us in the absence of Pastor Gelder.

Please remember Bill Kutz in your prayers this week as he is scheduled to undergo neck and back surgery this Tuesday at Lourdes Hospital.  Pray that the surgery will give him relief from the pain he’s been experiencing for some time and that he will have a speedy return to health and activity.

Tuesday, 7:00 PM Deacons meet
Wednesday, 7:00 PM Youth team meets

Please take note of the sheet on the exit door where you can list all the members of Valley Church who are graduating from high school or college this year.  We will be honoring them on June 29 and want to make sure all who should be noted will be recognized.

This Sunday we begin our summer schedule, which means there are no Sunday School classes and morning worship begins at 10:00 AM.  We will stay on that schedule until September 7.  Also, please take note of the sign up sheet on the door where you can sign up to bring refreshments for the after-service coffee time each week.  If two families work together for just one Sunday during the summer, we can all enjoy these more leisurely Sunday morning fellowship times.

Reserve Thursday, June 26, for a hymn sing and ice cream social here at Valley Church.  We’ll gather at 7:00 PM for a time of singing your favorite hymns and worship songs.  There are copies of a couple hymnals on the table in the entry today, along with paper where you can select songs you’d like us to sing that night.  At 8:00 we’ll adjourn for ice cream sundaes and fellowship outside (weather permitting.)  Think ahead about inviting neighbors and friends to come with you for this special evening.
If you have questions, talk with George De Jager (about the hymn sing) or Judy Crawford (about the ice cream social part.)

It will soon be time for the Johnnie Hart Memorial Christian Fellowship Breakfast connected with the Dick’s Sporting Goods golf tournament.  The breakfast this year is on Thursday, July 3, 7:30 AM, at the Kalurah Shrine in Endicott.  Cost is still just $10.00 and includes free admission to the En-joie course for the day.  If you’d like to attend with a group of others from Valley, you can get tickets from Ron Crawford.

The Willow Creek Summit will again be available via satellite in the Syracuse area and we plan to have a group from Valley Church attend.  This year’s dates are Thursday and Friday, August 7 and 8.  Let Pastor Gelder know if you are interested in attending or want more information. We’d appreciate it if you could pay $75 toward the cost of the conference and the church will pay the rest.  This is a top-notch conference with world-class speakers, this year including Bill Hybels, Chuck Colson, Wendy Kopp and others.

The Growth and Renewal Team is considering having a community garage sale at the church in late August.  You could rent a table for a small fee (to benefit the youth trip) and it would provide help to the community in times of economic hardship as well.  If you are interested or think this is a good idea, talk with Florence Doller.

The Gelders are in Michigan as Al is a delegate from Classis Atlantic Northeast to the annual Christian Reformed Church Synod meeting this week.  If you are interested, you can watch the plenary sessions on line at www.crcna.org.  They plan to return on Monday, June 23.  Please contact an elder if there are special pastoral care needs in their absence.

Youth Announcements:

NEXT SUNDAY, June 22, 2008

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  There are NO Sunday School classes until September 7.
MORNING WORSHIP:     10:00 AM   The message today will be brought by Mr. John Aukema, who will focus our thoughts on the theme of “Too Busy Not to Pray.”  We will also be joining with churches across Canada and the US in praying for the start of the Sea to Sea bike tour to raise funds for and awareness of the reality of hunger and poverty in our nation and world.
