WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship
Our hearts are ready, O Lord,
our hearts are ready!
We will sing and make melody!
We will awaken the dawn!
We will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples,
we will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. (Psalm 108:1-4)
*Opening Praise – 169 “I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord”
*God Greets Us
*We Greet Others
*Continuing Praise
“Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord”
“I Will Serve You”
“The Joy of the Lord”
Call to Confession
We cannot come before God unless we are first honest with ourselves about who we are, about the sins we commit, about our too common failure to put God first, and about how well or poorly we care for others.  With a spirit of honest self-examination, let us offer our prayers to God.
Prayer of Confession
Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer.
We confess that it is still all to easy for us to sacrifice our convictions for convenience, your standards for status, your principles for promotion, your absolutes for our ambition, our souls for shallow and unsatisfying success.
How easily we are seduced by power, prestige, pleasure, or possessions –
seduced into violating our integrity or harming our fellowship with you and your people.
From earth’s fullest bliss we turn to you again, unfulfilled.
Forgive us our half-hearted devotion and our double minded spirit.
In the name of him who refused to save himself we pray.
Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Hear the good news:
This saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin, and alive to all that is good.  I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.   (I Timothy 1:15; I Peter 2:24)
Thanks be to God.

Opportunities for Ministry and Fellowship
*Blessed to Serve
Jesus said:  “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’  This is the most important, the first on any list.  But there is a second to set along side it:  ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’  These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”  (Matthew 22:37-40 The Message)
May the grace of Christ daily renew us;
may the love of God enable us to love as we are loved;
may the fellowship of the Holy Spirit unite us in one body.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
*Parting Song – 635 “Glory Be to the Father”

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sunday, 3:30 PM Worship service at Good Shepherd-Fairview Home
Sunday, 5:00 PM Softball game at Schnurbusch park with St. James’ team
Wednesday, 6:00 AM Men’s breakfast and Bible study at the Spot

The Gelders will be conducting worship for the residents of the Good Shepherd-
Fairview Home this afternoon at 3:30 PM.  If you can help with singing and with greeting the worshipers, that is always appreciated.  The Home is located at 80 Fairview Ave. on Binghamton’s east side.

Now that the Van Dam family has returned to Haiti, keep them in your daily prayers, especially as they readjust to life in Haiti and as the children return to school this week.

Matt Martinichio continues making a good recovery from the accident and subsequent surgery.  He is still in physical therapy and will see the neurosurgeon for a follow-up appointment tomorrow.  God is so good!

We still need a couple people to sign up to lead the children’s church time at the end of August.  Please consider if you might be able to help out – it involves showing a video, already scheduled, and giving a snack to the children who participate.  Thanks for your help.

The Valley Church youth are doing a mini-workcamp today and tomorrow, helping with maintenance and basic upkeep at the Thomas home.  Pray for their safety and give thanks for their willingness to help others.  If you want to know how you can help, talk with Paul or Erin Peterson.

DISABILITY CONCERNS: The summer issue of Breaking Barriers, a quarterly resource with stories and information for inclusion of people with disabilities in churches and ministries, is now available online at www.crcna.org/disability. This issue features stories about how the Americans with Disabilities Act has affected churches since it was adopted 20 years ago.

NEXT SUNDAY, August 22, 2010
MORNING WORSHIP:  10:00 AM   Pastor Gelder will lead our worship, continuing the observance of “Ordinary Time”, especially “Family Time.”  The focus this week is on “Parenting” based on Deuteronomy 6:6-9.
The second offering will be for the relief and community development ministries of the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.  Remember that this agency of the CRC receives no ministry share support and is dependent on the generous offerings of God’s people.  In addition to ongoing programs around the world, there is immediate need for funds so CRWRC can respond to the floods in Pakistan and the drought in Niger.
At this service we will also welcome the Joel De Young family into full membership in Valley Church.  Joel and Jenni will profess/reaffirm their faith and Jacob and Kailee will be baptized.
There is no softball game scheduled
