WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE

Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship
I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David:
‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’”
Praise the Lord!

Call to Examination and Confession
Our Lord Jesus said:  “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”  Because we have not lived in full obedience, let us now confess our sins to God, trusting Christ as our Savior and Lord.
Prayer of Confession
God of love and justice, we long for peace within and peace without.  We long for harmony in our families, for serenity in the midst of struggle.  We long for the day when our homes will be a dwelling place for your love.  Yet we confess that we are often anxious, we do not trust each other, and we harbor violence.  We are not willing to take the risks and make the sacrifices that love requires.  Look upon us with kindness and grace.  Rule in our homes and in all the world; show us how to walk in your paths, through the mercy of our Savior.  Amen.

God of all power, send your Holy Spirit upon us, that in sharing the bread we may share in the body of Christ, that in sharing the cup we may share in his blood.  Grant that, being joined together in Christ Jesus, we may become united in faith and in all things become mature in the one who is our head.   Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our worship today includes a celebration of the Lord’s Supper.  All who have publicly professed Jesus as personal Savior and who are trying to follow him as Lord are welcome to receive the bread and cup as they are passed and to join the rest in eating and drinking after all have been served.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season.  Plan to join us in worship at 7:00 PM for a short service of reflection and penitence.  Receiving the mark of ashes on your forehead or hand is optional.

Please check your mail slot today and pick up the copy of the Lenten devotional booklet “Through Tears to Joy” that you will find there.  It is our hope that all will use this booklet to deepen your walk with Christ on his way to the cross and resurrection.

Parents’ Night Out is this Saturday from 5:30 – 8:30 PM.  If you plan to have your child attend, please register them on the sign-up sheet on the door or call the church (648-8224) no later than Friday noon.  If you can help staff one of the activities, talk with Janet Crawford today.

We extend our sympathy to Ruth and Howard Van Dam and their children on the death of Ruth’s mother last week.  God’s grace has been real to them but the loss of this saint is very real.  May the comfort of God’s promises sustain them all.

Let’s keep filling the baby bottles with change as our way of supporting the pro-life efforts of the Life Choices Center.  Please return your filled bottle by February 28.

Did you notice that we’ve added mail boxes for the older children and teens as well?  They will appreciate some mail or goodies too.  Isn’t it great to have people of all ages in the Valley Church family?
