WE ENTER INTO GOD’S PRESENCE
Preparation for Worship
*Call to Worship
God invites us into his healing presence with these words:
“I am the Lord, who heals you.”
Diseased, depressed, dysfunctional, defeated, we come hungering for health that only God can provide.
God calls us to bring open eyes, hearing ears, and tender hearts turned toward him, the Great Physician.
We bow before him in faith and expectancy!

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper – Psalm 63:1-5; 34:8
The bread that we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
We who are many are one body, for we all share the same loaf.
The cup for which we give thanks is a sharing in the blood of Christ.
The cup that we drink is our participation in the blood of Christ.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
The body of Christ, given for you.
Thanks be to God.
The blood of Christ, shed for you.
Thanks be to God.
*God Blesses Us
*Song of Thanksgiving – 490:1,3 “Blessed Assurance: Jesus Is Mine”

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our worship this morning includes a celebration of the Lord’s Supper, a gift God has given us so we can be strong to live for God in a God-defying world. If you have publicly professed Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, either here at Valley Church or in another Christian church, and if your life reflects that profession, receive the bread and cup as they are passed and then eat and drink with the rest after all have been served.
The second offering today is for Back to God Ministries, the media ministry of the Christian Reformed Church. Though the English language broadcast is not heard in The Binghamton, we do benefit from the “Today” devotional booklets many of us use. International ministries of Back to God are found in nine languages and the internet is an increasingly important part of this work. Your generous financial help is needed and appreciated.
Wednesday, 11:30 AM Women’s Luncheon at Cracker Barrel
Saturday, 5:30 PM Parent’s Night Out
This Saturday evening we start our sixteenth season of offering parents in our community a night out while their children are being safely cared for. Parents’ Night Out runs from 5:30 – 8:30 PM and is for infants through grade four. Older children often can be helpers. If you are planning to have your child attend, please sign the sheet on the door today or call the church no later than Friday morning. You are also the best advertising, so mention this program to your neighbors and friends and encourage them to call as well. And if you can help by doing one of the stations or by accompanying a group of children from place to place, please talk with Janet Crawford today.
Tom Reynolds will have surgery Monday morning at Wilson Medical Center to remove part of his pancreas and spleen. Pray that this will successfully remove the cancer from his body. Pray for him too during the recovery from this major surgery.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: repeat last week’s unless you get an update from Tilly.
The repeat presentation of “Generations”, Ron Crawford’s fast-paced analysis of how people in different age groups respond differently to situations and how they can learn to work together when aware of these differences, has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 12. Put that date on your calendar and plan to attend and to bring some friends with you.
The annual CHOW Hunger Walk will be next Sunday afternoon, October 18 on the campus of Binghamton University. The deacons are encouraging more of Valley Church people to walk and get sponsors for your person or team. Information and contribution envelopes are on the table in the foyer. Contact Barb Komaromi if you have questions. Meanwhile, as in the past, you can always support Betsy Gelder in her “Hunger Ride” for CHOW. She will be glad to receive your contribution either today or next Sunday.
Christian Reformed Home Missions has created a series of short devotions for Reformation Week, October 19-25. Designed for all ages, each one has a prayer, a challenge to the reader, and a family discussion topic. Please go to www.crhm.org/transformation to receive these devotions, which will be available via e-mail on October 16.
NEXT SUNDAY, October 18, 2009
SUNDAY SCHOOL: 9:15 AM Classes for all ages meet. The adult class continues a discussion on worship. Your input and participation is a plus to you and to the rest of the class.
MORNING WORSHIP: 10:30 AM Pastor Gelder will bring the message, continuing the series of messages “Good Questions, Great Answers”. The message will be “Am I My Brother’s Keeper?” from Genesis 4:9. We will be standing with others who are part of the Micah Challenge as we renew our commitment to alleviate hunger locally and around the world.
