WE RESPOND WITH THANKSGIVING
Celebration of the Lord’s Supper
God meets us in the sacraments, holy acts in which his deeds elicit our response. In the supper our lord offers the bread and cup to believers to guarantee our share in his death and resurrection, and to unite us to him and to each other.
We take this food gladly, announcing as we eat that Jesus is our life and that he shall come again to call us to the Supper of the Lamb. (from Our World Belongs to God, stanza 40)
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus:
Dying, you destroyed our death;
Rising, you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
Come, then, for all is ready.
Let us keep the feast. Alleluia!
The gifts of God for the people of God.
The body of Christ, given for you.
Thanks be to God!
The blood of Christ, shed for you.
Thanks be to God!

THIS WEEK IN THE LIFE OF VALLEY CHURCH
Our worship this morning will include celebrating the Lord’s Supper. Jesus gave this sacrament as a gift to his church, reminding us in a visible and tangible way of his promise to “be with you always.” Participation in the eating and drinking is for all who have publicly professed that Jesus is their Savior and Lord and who are seeking to live a life that honors that profession. If that describes you, please take the bread and cup as they are passed and eat and drink with the rest after all have been served.
Saturday, 7:30 PM “The Great Warming” film and discussion
The second offering today is for Christian Reformed World Missions and specifically for support of the Van Dam family and their ministries in Haiti. Please give generously and accompany your gift with prayer.
As a result of your input on Small Group Sunday, we hope to start new small groups for people interested in photography, a book club, scrapbooking, family activities, Christian music and flood relief work. Some of the ideas on the small group “wish list” included computing, walking, genealogy, prayer, weight loss, dancing and sports. If you are interested in being involved in one of these areas, there are sign up sheets in the back. If there is enough interest, the Small Group team will try to find a leader and get these groups launched as well.
The Franklin Graham Festival is gathering momentum in our area and in Valley Church. We are recruiting a team of people to help with Valley’s involvement in several areas including children and youth, training and follow-up, recruitment of volunteers and outreach. Keep this major endeavor surrounded and supported with prayer.
People continue to need our prayers. In addition to those mentioned on the list of ongoing prayer needs, give thanks that Julie and Abby Roossien both are recovering after their surgeries last week. Pray too for Peter De Young who will be undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday. Pat and Doug Aukema appreciate your prayers for Pat’s family as they tragically lost a nephew last Wednesday.
